How To Take Care of Your Engagement Ring
How To Clean Your Engagement Ring
There are a few ways you can keep your engagement ring clean and sparkly. We recommend cleaning your ring once every few months depending on your lifestyle.
Cleaning your ring at home
Using a soft toothbrush and a bowl of warm water mixed with gentle dish soap, soak your engagement ring in the mixture for a few minutes before giving it a gentle scrub. The key is to be gentle to avoid scratching the metal.
Make sure to get behind the prongs and the back of the stone as this is where the most dirt buildup happens! Once your ring is clean, rinse it under running water and let it air dry, or wipe it down with a lint-free cloth. You can also give it a quick polish with the complimentary polishing cloth included with your ring.
Tip: If you notice the stone is loose, avoid scrubbing it and contact us for fixing it at support@klaraallen.com
Complimentary Cleaning
At Klara Allen, we love aftercare. Thatβs why we offer complimentary cleaning for the first year of purchase and you can send us your piece for cleaning after that as well with a very minimal cost. Please Note: Customer will have to bear the cost of shipping.
Ultrasonic cleaning is a process that uses high-frequency sonic waves to gently lift and remove dirt, grime, and contaminants from your precious jewellery and is usually more effective than just scrubbing. It can be done as frequently as necessary, but your sales consultant will always check to make sure no stones are loose before proceeding!
When To Take Off Your Ring
While we understand you never want to take off your beautiful ring, certain activities can be damaging if it's worn. Here are some recommendations on when to take off your ring!
Heavy Physical Labour
We recommend taking off your ring while performing any activity that involves contact, including lifting weights or boxing! Activities that require you to grip something with force, including heavy grocery bags, can damage the metal of your ring over time, and can eventually cause your band to warp or snap through repeated strain.
Swimming
This includes the beach, the pool or the hot tub! Chlorine can not only leave residue on your stone, adding grime and dulling its sparkle but it can also weaken the metal of your ring, causing discolouration and the prongs to potentially loosen.
Furthermore, cold water can also cause your fingers to shrink temporarily, increasing the risk of your ring falling off and getting lost!
Household Chores
When doing housework such as cleaning, gardening or cooking, itβs important to take care of your ring! Some cleaning products contain harsh chemicals that can discolour your ring over time, while other activities may leave dirt and residue build-up around your stone. Also, any hands-on activity may result in your ring getting caught, snagged or hit, so always be mindful if you decide to keep it on!
Sleeping
While not necessarily dangerous to wear to bed, your ring may get caught or snagged on bed sheets, hair, or clothing overnight, potentially damaging or loosening its prongs.
Pro Tip: Always make sure to keep your ring in a safe place when youβre not wearing it. We recommend storing it in your Klara Allen pouch or ring box and leaving it somewhere that is easy to remember!

FAQ
Your questions, answered.
Can I wear my ring in the shower?
No, it's generally not recommended. Soap, shampoo, and conditioner can leave a filmy residue on the stone, reducing its sparkle, and potentially loosening the stone.
Can I wear my ring all the time?
While diamond and moissanite are durable, we recommend removing your ring while swimming, exercising, cleaning, cooking, and gardening to protect it from chemicals and physical damage.
Can I wear my ring while exercising?
It depends on the activity. High-contact exercises pose a risk of damage. For gentler exercises like running or cycling, it's safer, but we advise caution.
When should I take off my ring?
We recommend removing your ring for activities like exercising, swimming, cooking, cleaning, gardening, and sleeping for its safety.
Where should I keep my ring when I'm not wearing it?
Store your ring in a safe, memorable place, preferably in its own fabric-lined case, ring pouch, or box to avoid scratches or damage.
Should I have my ring professionally cleaned?
Yes, at least once a year for a deep clean and to check for any loose stones or damage for regular maintenance.
Can I swim with my jewellery on?
Remove your jewellery before swimming in the ocean or a chlorinated pool to prevent damage.
What to do if my jewellery is damaged?
Please contact support@klaraallen.comΒ for any repair related queries. If there is a physical damage and can be fixed we will be more than happy to fix it for you at a very minimal cost.
