Engagement Ring Terminology

We're on this special journey with you. Outlined below are some key engagement ring terms, to help you design your dream ring to perfection.

Basket

The basket is the metal part of the head of the ring which holds your gemstone.


Gallery Rail

The gallery rail is a support bar that makes part of the basket in which your gemstone is held.

Hidden Gemstone

A hidden gemstone is not essential, but a sentimental addition. Generally placed up beneath the basket where it is comfortable and practical.

Shank

The shank is what we refer to as the band part of the ring. It comprises of the part of the ring that encircles the part of the finger.

Hidden Halo

A design feature where the gallery rail that forms part of the basket securing a stone is lined with small stones. Not visible from directly above the ring, a hidden halo adds a touch of sparkle from a side view.

Shoulders

Metal shoulders ascend along the band, seamlessly melding with the gallery rail. These additions not only enhance the visual appeal but also bolster the structural integrity. This is a signature element of the cathedral setting style.

Bridge

The bridge is the part of the shank (or band) underneath the basket.

Prongs

Prongs also known as claws, are what wraps around the gemstone and secures it perfectly in place.

Pavé Band

A pavé band refers to small pave set stones lining the shank of the band.


Pavé Bridge

The pavé bridge is set along the bridge of the ring and not visible from the top, this is a bespoke customisation that adds an extra touch of sparkle to the side of the ring.
